On Tuesday, a group of Y12 mathematicians had the fantastic opportunity to attend a maths conference at the University of Warwick. Surrounded by an enthusiastic crowd of teachers and students, we began the day with a helpful talk about problem solving. After this, eager to try out our newly learned techniques, we launched into a group activity tackling some problems ourselves. We even saw an NGHS group present their solution to everyone, in exchange for some well-deserved Oreos! Then it was time to get into the competitive spirit for a ‘Fun Maths Roadshow’, where we got to encounter new and interesting questions, trying to answer as many as we could in the hour. Lunchtime came, and having refuelled after a group dash to Costa, we were ready to take on the afternoon, looking at admissions test questions and developing our mathematical fluency. By the end of the day, we had learned a lot and were armed with a whole host of new ways to think about problems. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day, and I would definitely encourage anyone who gets the chance to go in the future. Thank
you to Mr Heighway and Mrs Taylor for taking us there - we had a great time! Charlotte H (Year 12)
