Ms K Gill - Head of Careers
Ms Gill coordinates the careers programme at NGHS, ensuring that the school delivers a relevant, rich and diverse set of careers-based events and activities for all year groups. She coordinates the work experience programme in year 10 and also maintains a relationship with external organisations such as the Marches Careers Hub, Telford and Wrekin Council and hundreds of employers.
Catherine Keeble
Reassure
Catherine is a Senior Manager with ReAssure, a financial services provider based in Telford. The company sponsors her to work for T&W as an Enterprise Adviser to NGHS. Her role is to support the school by providing an insight for students into the world of work, employer expectations and workplace culture. ReAssure do different activities with each year group looking at aspects of the work environment. Catherine feels strongly that this is a 2-way communication though as she learns as much from the students as they do from her!
Leia Winch
FutureFocus
Leia is the FutureFocus Careers Adviser based at Newport Girls’. She meets up with every Year 11 in school to discuss their future plans. Sixth Formers are offered appointments, too. Besides this, she organises the PSHE Careers Programme for Years 7-11. This has been designed with Kate Gill, the Careers Lead in school. The key themes are as follows:
- Year 7: Discovering skills, qualities and interests.
- Year 8: Decision making around GCSE Options, including exploring the link between subjects and careers.
- Year 9: An introduction to Post 16 and 18 Options.
- Year 10: An employability led programme run mainly be our Enterprise Adviser, Catherine Keeble from Reassure. The students will learn about job applications, CVs and have an interview with a member of staff from Reassure.
- Year 11: Reintroducing Post 16 and 18 Options.
- The PSHE Careers Programme is led by external providers with the support of teachers. There are visits from Universities, Colleges, Employers, the Department of Work and Pensions and our very own Newport Girls’ Sixth Form students.
- Students at Newport Girls’ also have access to a careers software package called Xello, which is introduced in Year 7 and reviewed every year.
- Our aim is to ensure every student makes well researched and informed careers decisions.
