"I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being". (Oscar Wilde)
The Drama staff aim to enrich students’ perception of drama and the role of theatre through a broad and ambitious curriculum, ensuring that all students are provided with opportunities to broaden their knowledge and theatrical skills in a practical manner. The drama curriculum aims to promote a love for the arts and enhance empathy, confidence, cooperation, creativity, social awareness and self-esteem.
In Key Stage 3, our focus is on creating, performing and responding. Drama is taught as a discrete arts subject with students having one lesson a week in Year 7 and 8. Students will develop an understanding of how to apply and analyse different stylistic qualities through a rich study of classical and contemporary genres and texts. The drama curriculum aims to stimulate imagination and creativity, building personal skills which can be relied upon to succeed beyond school life.
Outside of lessons, students have the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular activities including Drama club in the Summer term, the whole school production and a number of in-house competitions such as the house drama competition in the final week of term.
