Freya
Lower School Head Girl
Hi, I'm Freya and I am honoured to be the Lower School Head Girl for this year. I am looking forward to working with and alongside the Lower School Head Girl team, members of the Head Girl team, staff and students at our school as so to ensure that everyone feels valued and gets given the chances to progress through an enjoyable environment at school. My role in this position is to make sure the lower year groups are connected to the older ones so that everyone inputs and needs can be supported. I aim to help create a smooth as possible transition for the new Year 7 by being a face to whom they can voice their concerns and opinions. By closely working together with my own team and the Head Girl team I aim to help contribute to the hard work that goes on in school behind the scenes, by helping organize and create events and opportunities that input to the NGHS life.

Kindness Lead
Hi everyone, I'm Evelyn and I'm the lower school kindness Lead; this year I hope to ensure that everyone in our NGHS family feels appreciated and comfortable within their school lives, as at the end of the day we do spend a lot of our time at school. I am so pleased to have the privilege of promoting the importance of mental health; acts of kindness can be incredibly varied, while all can be appreciated in different ways, for example doing something as simple as a holding a door for someone can completely make their day. Thus, spreading kindness through our lives and just taking some time out to relax every now and again can be truly vital. Accordingly, I am here to ensure that everyone in the lower school is looking after themselves and each other. Have a great day everyone.

Careers & Community
I am thrilled at the prospect of being the Careers and Communications Deputy for the Lower School Head Girl Team and getting to work with an amazing, talented group. My aim is to ensure that every student is aware, and able to access solid and reliable career and GCSE options advice from Mrs Gill and the careers team. Furthermore, regarding my role in communications, I would like to integrate myself within the lower school community and make sure their ideas are heard and communicated through the Lower School Head Girl Team. Overall, I’m excited to be a part of this incredible team and can’t wait to see what positive change I can make this school year.

Transition & Integration
Hello! I am privileged to be granted the position of Lower School Deputy Head Girl for Transition and Integration. I hope to make your start in NGHS stress-free, relaxed and a safe space for all. I’m sure that starting a new school can be daunting, that was once me and I am aware it is challenging to adjust to a new school environment and schedule, but I can assure you that I will be there to help make your transition as smooth as possible. Making new friends can be frightening but most people around you are probably thinking the same thing. NGHS has a variety of clubs in place, I suggest going to them, it can help you to find others with the same interests as you and can hopefully help you to find a new thing you enjoy. There are lots of teachers who are very approachable and will listen to anything you have to say. I am really looking forward to meeting all of you and helping to make your NGHS journey a spectacular one.

Health & Well-Being
Hello everyone! I’m Debbie and I have been given the opportunity to be this year’s Health and Wellbeing Deputy on the Lower School Head Girl. I am so excited to work with this year’s head girl team and staff, in making this school a happy and healthy environment, for all! My role is to ensure that all students know who they can approach for support, inside and outside school, so that all concerns will be heard, whether physical or emotional. We all struggle sometimes, which is okay, however it’s important to have the right support system so that when we get knocked down, we can always get up again and keep on going! For some of us, school may be our support system, so making sure that school continues to be a safe place for everyone is vital. Each person will have their own way of dealing with circumstances, however, some methods are not healthy and so I aim to shed light on different ways we can healthily cope with situations, as well as help students balance school life with life outside of school. Overall, I am very keen on getting students involved with activities concerning mental and physical health.

Academic Matters
Hi, I'm Yuthika and I'm this year's academic chair. My job is to support the school in all things academic. This school has amazing facilities but for the new Year 7 students it's a whole new experience. I hope to make the sudden change to secondary as enjoyable and less frightening as possible and to help even the older students who may have been here for a few years and have got other concerns. As well as helping out on the academic side of school I also help out with anything I can get involved in like clubs and noticeboards but in other events to help the sixth form head girl team reduce their workload in the last year of secondary. I look forward to a year of helping out as much as I can and making school an experience that's a little less stressful.

Inclusion & Participation
I am delighted to be the Lower School Deputy Head Girl for Participation and Inclusion, where it is my role to make our school a place you enjoy and feel safe attending each morning. My aim is to make NGHS a welcoming place with a comfortable and inclusive learning environment; to do this I would like students to feel safe to talk to me about what can be improved or added to Newport Girls’ High School. This is important as NGHS is a community, and everyone’s ideas and thoughts are valued. I want to be able to build a strong sense of community here at NGHS and to do this I will encourage pupils to work together in House Competitions or Fundraisers as well as making clubs supporting their own interests, where they can go to feel happy and safe. This will make our school more of an enjoyable and appealing environment for students. It is an honour to be a part of Newport Girls’ High School’s Lower Head Girl Team and I can’t wait to work as team with my fellow students to make our school a better place for students to express their thoughts and ideas, building a strong sense of community.
