We are Recruiting - Teacher of Biology MPS/UPS (0.8-1.0 FTE)

19 September 2024

The Head and Trustees seek to appoint a full-time, well-qualified, enthusiastic teacher of Biology to join our outstanding, high-achieving school.

Job overview

The Head and Trustees wish to appoint a Teacher of Biology / Science to join our outstanding Science faculty. This is a flexible post that could be part time (0.8 fte over four days) or full time post (1.0 fte).  We welcome applications from experienced teachers but also ECTs for whom coaching and support will be provided. The ability to teach Biology to A-level is desirable.

The Science Faculty is very experienced and all teachers are degree holders in their relevant disciplines. Every student in KS3 studies all three sciences as separate lessons with specialists and all students currently follow this pathway to GCSE (100% triple science entry). At A-level, biology is one of the most popular subject choices with 3 A-level classes in each year group. Chemistry often has 3 classes and there are about 15-20 physicists in each of the A-level cohorts. This post is offered owing to a continued growth in external applicants for Post-16 education and biology is the most popular subject for 2024-25.

We are very much a family and a team at NGHS; our colleagues work exceptionally hard to help each student to achieve their potential and they also support each other. We take staff well-being extremely seriously and our Well-being Charter is included in this pack to show you what we do.

NGHS is an outstanding girls’ grammar school. We were most recently inspected by Ofsted in November 2022 and the school was judged outstanding in every category, placing us in the top 3% of schools. Please read the report here; you will see why we are so proud of our staff and students. We are also the 2020 West Midlands Secondary School of the Year and have recently won a number of accolades rewarding our work in supporting Mental Health, Holocaust Education, the Be Kind Award and the AcSEED Award.

Our trustee board is incredibly supportive and experienced. Their drive and ambition for the school keeps us on our toes, but they are passionate about enhancing opportunities for all students. We are heavily oversubscribed and hold an annual entrance test. We have, on average, 120 girls in each year group. The sixth form is also oversubscribed and we take students from a number of 11-16 and 11-18 high schools as well, of course, as our own Year 11s.

Importantly, NGHS believes in offering an all-round education and the successful applicant will be committed to extra-curricular opportunities. S/he will be expected to contribute to the school’s varied programme within their subject or beyond.

Please contact the Headteacher, Mr A Jones, for any more information via jobs@nghs.org.uk.

NGHS is an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to the equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy/maternity, race, religion or belief. We particularly welcome applications from colleagues from under-represented backgrounds. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS, Barred List check and other recruitment checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education Safer Recruitment practices. This includes sourcing police checks for any period of time spent abroad and social media account checks.

Closing date - Monday 7 October at 9am. However, we urge applicants to apply ASAP as we may choose to close the advert early should we receive sufficient applications to shortlist for interview.
