CHARITIES WEEK IS NEARLY HERE!

6 February 2025

Monday 10 February will see the beginning of Newport Girls’ High School’s celebrated annual Charities Week. This is an invaluable opportunity for all of our students and staff to work extremely hard to raise funds for the charities that have been selected by each House to support. This year, Austen will be raising funds and awareness for Ronald McDonald House Charities, Roddam for Women’s Aid, and Seacole for Alzheimer’s Society. Each of these charities has significance to our school community and students will have an opportunity to contribute in as many ways as they are comfortably able to.

Each day there will be a different whole-school theme for students and staff to partake in.

•               Monday, everyone is encouraged to think outside the bag, and to bring their possessions to school in anything but a bag. The more creative the better!

•               On Tuesday, students can accessorise in their House colours (including painting their nails which they can keep for the week), and we are encouraging crazy hair and headwear as something which has been hugely successful in previous years.

•               Wednesday sees the first day of fancy dress, with students and staff coming dressed as something that begins with the same first letter as their name.

•               And finally, on Thursday, students and staff are being encouraged to come dressed as their dream childhood job.

Students will be asked to pay a minimum of £3 upfront to their form tutor on Monday 10 February if they wish to partake in all or any aspects of this. Please be reminded that clothing and other choices must be safe and appropriate for a school environment - this means that, for all students, no revealing short or low-cut items should be worn and additionally no midriffs should be seen.

There will also be lunch time activities each day for students to partake in or spectate at. Students will need to make a small donation to be a part of these, and some will have limited availability.

•           Monday – Sponge the Teacher (£1 for 3 sponges)

•           Tuesday – Make and Sell Market in the Hall (free to enter for sellers and buyers)

•           Wednesday - Staff vs. Student Netball on the courts (£1 to spectate).

•           Thursday - The House Dance competition in the hall (£1 to spectate, max. 200 audience).

•           Monday - Wednesday – Valentines Crafternoon with Miss Walker (£1 to partake, max. 20 per day).

Finally, individual students and forms groups are welcome to arrange the following events or those similar to take place prior to, or during the week, and to showcase at the make and sell market;

•           Hamper Raffle (e.g. Chocolate / Cosmetics)

•           Guess the Number of Sweets

•           Making and Selling Homemade Wares (e.g. bracelets / artwork / candles)

•           Tombola / Raffle

•           Homemade baked or other food products (these must include an ingredients list – no nuts).

•           Sponsored Events (which must not take place during the school day)

The House Teams will also be organising a “Pal-entines” charity event that week, to allow students to send a small gift and card to show some appreciation to their pals and loved ones.

We really hope that this week will be a spectacular opportunity for our school family to come together to have some fun during the last week of the half term.
