The hard work of Newport Girls’ High School’s Year 13 students has once again paid off with some fantastic A-level results being achieved in 2018. This year group has shown a particular creative streak and our Art & Design Technology results paint a clear picture of success with two thirds of candidates achieving highly sought after A* grades and displaying excellence in their practical projects. Results in English and Humanities subjects were also particularly strong and these have helped pave the way for students to take up their first choice university places. Also of particular merit this summer were our Extended Project Qualification results. This qualification is compulsory at NGHS and prepares candidates for the rigors of university life and one third of candidates achieved the very top A* grade. All EPQ results were graded A*-C, proving the significant worth of this additional qualification, which includes a 5000 word dissertation, presentation and production log diary.
As well as dealing with the demands of the workload associated with the newly-reformed A-levels, several students have overcome personal difficulties to achieve high grades. Their resilience has paid off and the School is very proud of their successes. In total, over 40 students achieved three results at grades A*-B and the pass rate for this year was 98%.
We are proud of our Year 13 cohort and the results they have achieved. This has only been possible through the dedication, determination and hard work of our students and their strong relationships with staff in our sixth form. We wish all our students every possible success as they embark on a range of university courses including Medicine, Dentistry, Languages, Architecture and Fashion Business as well as apprenticeships in the local area and gap years abroad. We look forward to hearing of their many future successes and hope that they keep in touch with us.
